About the Pax Christi New England Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons (PCAN):

Our group formed in 2023 and produced the January 27, 2024, virtual forum Building a World Without Nuclear Weapons: An Urgent Imperative. The forum drew more than 900 live participants and the recording has been viewed more than 1,200 times on YouTube.

PCAN’s goals are to:
  • amplify Pope Francis’ teachings on the abolition of nuclear weapons
  • build upon Archbishop John C. Wester’s groundbreaking 2022 pastoral letter, Living in the Light of Christ’s Peace: A Conversation Toward Nuclear Disarmament
  • help advocates to promote these teachings among Catholic hierarchy, laity, and beyond
  • call upon the Catholic population to ask their government leaders to take action to abolish nuclear weapons
  • work with other Catholic organizations to publicize the dangers of nuclear weapons and our moral obligation to abolish them
  • increase momentum to achieve a world without nuclear weapons by 2030

We are honored that the Vatican’s Dicastery for Promoting Human Integral Development has accepted our offer to collect and share North Americans’ thoughts, feelings, prayers, actions and hopes surrounding the reality and threat of nuclear weapons. PCAN hopes this information sharing can move us closer to the global elimination of such weapons.

We hope to have our responses ready for sharing later this spring. You will hear from us then!

In the meantime, we offer the following resources to expand and focus your knowledge on nuclear weapons:
