Gaza Children’s Shroud Project Updates

Members of St. Susanna’s parish in Dedham are taking part in the Gaza Children’s Shroud project. Originating in Italy and organized in the US by Priests Against Genocide, Doctors Against Genocide, and Justice for All, parishioners inscribed the names and ages of some of the 21,000 children murdered by Israeli forces since 2023 on swaths of fabric. These will be joined with other pieces inscribed around the country before the shroud is presented both outside the United Nations in New York City on September 16 and on the National Mall in Washington, DC on a date to be announced.

At a dedication at Mass at St. Susanna’s on August 9, PCMA Board Member Linden Jenkins read: “We send this shroud forward in the world this day bear witness to these lives lost. We send it today with our own resolve to bear witness to the light begun in these lives cut short.” As parishioners held the shroud in front of the altar, a thurible containing incense was waved above it, a ritual often performed at funerals as a blessing and sign of reverence for the dead.
